In Celebration of Our Alumni

A Letter from Our Head of School

Mr. Toby, WSP ’00, with students in the Morning Garden classroom where he is the assistant for Morning Garden Transition and the Lead Teacher for Morning Garden on Tuesdays.

Dear WSP Families and Friends,

Recently I recalled the bit of excitement I experienced when I learned about celebrities who were Waldorf students. This was many years ago, so I remember hearing the names Jennifer Aniston, Julia Margulies, and the former CEO and Chairman of American Express, Kenneth Chenault. More recently a list of celebrity Waldorf parents has emerged: Lisa Bonet, Lenny Kravitz, Harrison Ford, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, and Mikhail Baryshnikov are just a few. It can be a momentary thrill to see those in the spotlight value what you value, but then one thinks, "Why wouldn't they?" Waldorf education develops capacities for life.

This morning, our Director of Little Friends shared with me this touching story. She asked one of the children in Little Friends if her doll had a name. The child replied, “Waldorf”.

This brings me to what I’m most excited to share with you this month which is news of our alumni. Two of our former WSP students are currently lead Waldorf teachers. In January, Tobias Foglia stepped into the role of lead Morning Garden teacher at WSP. Mr. Toby is one of our first alumni, Class of 2000. He was a teacher in the Yellow House for four years before moving into our Morning Garden program. He is a second generation Waldorf teacher, bringing artistry to everything he does.

This month, I also learned that Maeve Gannon, Class of 2007, is a Grade Six Teacher at Mountain Sage Community School in Colorado. You can read her bio on their school website. You'll note a sample of her beautiful chalkboard drawing below.

In the months to come, we hope to reconnect with more of our alumni. It’s always a joy to hear from our former students, to remember the past, and to hear where they are now. We would love to welcome them back on campus for special events, and so they can reconnect with one another as well. You’ll note the Alumni Contact Information Form on our website. Please be in touch!

In celebration of our alumni,

Kirsten Christopherson-Clark

Head of School
