Applying to Waldorf School of Pittsburgh

The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh is an independent, not-for-profit school founded in 1993. Our school welcomes students of all races, colors, religions, national and ethnic origins, and from diverse family and economic backgrounds. We have programs for children from birth to eighth grade.

 

Admission is selective and depends upon space availability, age, and an assessment of the student’s physical, emotional, and intellectual development and needs. 

Kindergarten, Nursery, and Little Friends Admissions Steps & Checklist

Application Process:

  • Kindergarten applicants must turn 3 by June 1st of the year of intended enrollment and be fully toilet-trained

  • Nursery applicants must turn 2 by January 1st of the year of intended enrollment.

  • Complete the application via TADS online enrollment. We recommend you complete your application by February 1.

  • Attend a virtual (Zoom, FaceTime, or Skype) or in-person Parent-Teacher Interview. Note: Little Friends holds group interviews. 

  • If your child is not currently enrolled in a WSP Early Childhood Program, they must have an in-person visit. A member of the Admissions Team will contact you directly to schedule the time.

    • Visits:* 

      • Kindergarten: 2-hour visit independent of a parent or guardian

      • Nursery and Little Friends: 1-hour visit with a parent or guardian present

  • Submit the Student Records Release form (available once you’ve applied through TADS) and teacher reference, if applicable.

*Note 2024 visits will occur in January and February for applicants for the 2024–25 school year.

 

A completed file includes:
  • a completed application

  • a Parent-Teacher interview

  • an in-person or virtual tour/Open House

  • a child’s classroom visit

  • a copy of the applicant’s school records/transcripts and teacher reference, if applicable

Admissions Overview & Applications Timeline

When to Apply

Families considering Waldorf Education for their children are asked to submit a completed application, including the $50 application fee, by February 1st of each year for September enrollment. Applications received after this date will be considered if space is available. Applications are good for 2 years and subsequent programs or grades. 

 

Determination letters are sent electronically in March.

How to Apply

Our school uses an online application service called TADS to process application materials. To apply, please use the link below. Please note, the link is for new student applications only. Returning students reapply via an individual link emailed from TADS.

A Note about Our Application

The application for the Waldorf School of Pittsburgh is quite unlike applications for other schools in that it asks questions about the child's birth, early development, and home life — we strive to get to know the whole child. You can expect to spend about an hour completing the application.​

Elementary and Middle School Admissions Steps & Checklist

Application Process:

  • First grade applicants must turn 6 by June 1st of the year of intended enrollment.

  • Complete the application via TADS online enrollment. We recommend you complete your application by February 12.

  • Attend a virtual (Zoom, FaceTime, or Skype) or in-person Parent-Teacher Interview with the teacher.

  • Students not currently enrolled in a WSP Early Childhood program must complete:

    • For students applying for 1st Grade: a 1st Grade Readiness Assessment, as determined by faculty.

    • For students applying for 2nd–8th Grades:  A two, consecutive day visit to the classroom. Faculty may request an additional day, if needed.

    • Submit the Student Records Release form (available once you’ve applied through TADS).

  • a completed application

  • a Parent-Teacher interview

  • an in-person or virtual tour/Open House

  • copy of the applicant’s school records/transcripts and Middle School Student Questionnaire, if applicable

  • teacher recommendation, if available
