April has been filled with class plays, field trips, our Grandparents & Special Friends Open House, and flowers blooming on campus! In the second week of this month, our Fifth Grade performed Pandora’s Box. This Greek myth tells the story of how curiosity wins out when Pandora cannot resist opening a box that Zeus has cunningly filled with evils including anger, illness, desire, and lies. Even though Pandora released pain and suffering upon the world, she allowed hope to follow. Among its definitions, hope can be a wish or it can be optimism. I find watching the children perform on stage stirs in me thoughts and feelings of both.
This month, our hope of seeing Heartwood Annex, our eighth grade classroom, achieve Core certification finally came to fruition. You can find the project's case study here. Since breaking ground in 2019, we have worked steadily to accomplish this goal, encountering numerous challenges along the way including the pandemic. Heartwood Annex is a result of what our community can do together. We are so excited to celebrate this monumental achievement for the school.
We are also excited to celebrate our 31st May Fair next Saturday, May 3rd from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Please bring your family and friends to this celebration of spring, the arts, and community. It is yet another example of how our community works together. We invite you to volunteer where you can and enjoy the day.
Wishing you the joys of spring,
Kirsten Christopherson-Clark
