Grade 5 Collaborates with Teaching Artist Born Shamir

As a part of the North American Geography Block, Grade 5 collaborated with Teaching Artist Born Shamir. The collaboration incorporated Mr. Born's knowledge and ancestry to teach students about how black people (inventors, railway workers, cowboys, native Americans, and abolitionists) worked in collaboration with people of other identities to shape the land and further the lives of all. Students composed a hip-hop song incorporating railway imagery and songs to express this knowledge, which they recorded on their final day.
