About the Event

We are excited to announce a new offering, Waldorf Wednesdays, for newly accepted, applicant, and existing WSP families. These virtual gatherings will take place on Wednesday evenings via Zoom, be led by WSP faculty and staff with support from members of the community, and will cover a variety of topics related to Waldorf education.

Register today for Windows & Mirrors — Building an Inclusive School Community on April 12th from 7–7:45pm. Zoom link to be shared upon registration. 

Details:

  • An evening for Black, Brown, Latino/a, Indigenous, Asian, Arab, Indian, and people of color families and parents of children of color.
  • How teachers work to build an inclusive community and cross-cultural understanding.
  • An affinity space and discussion will include other WSP parents to explore where we are and where we hope to go as a school community.

Speakers/Hosts:

Sister IAsia Thomas is a parent of two children at WSP and a member of the EDI Committee. She has been essential to the creation of the  WSP Teaching Artist model, bringing Black and Brown artists to work with WSP students and faculty in a deep and intentional way. Sister IAsia is a collaborator within her role in service to The Heinz Endowments’ Transformative Arts Process (TAP) Advisory Board. As an educational equity leader and trained artisan with 20+ years of experience in the field, she brings a strong commitment to cultural preservation, education, service, and social justice. Her dedication to integrity, respect for human diversity, and the ability to cultivate and maintain healthy, trustworthy relationships remains at the center of her WSP community involvement.

Laura Phillips is the Morning Garden Transitional Lead Teacher. Miss Laura joined Waldorf School of Pittsburgh in 2012 as a Lead Teacher to the Little Friends Apple Blossoms. From 2012–2019 Laura served as the Director of the Little Friends Program. She is an artist and educator living in the Garfield area with her partner and young child (who will start Morning Garden Toddler class this fall). Laura has an M.Ed in Education and is  National S.E.E.D. (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) Project trained. Laura is a member of the  Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee at WSP.

Holly King Waldorf teacher trained serves as our current 7th Grade teacher and has two WSP alumni. Holly began teaching middle school English in 1993 and taught in the private and public sector for 11 years. When Waldorf School of Pittsburgh relocated to her neighborhood, she was inspired and honored to join the faculty. Since then she has led one class through grades 1–8 and her current class since first grade. Holly has an MS.Ed in Language Art in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a member of the EDI Committee at WSP and is  National S.E.E.D. (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) Project trained.
