Scenes from Campus: June 2022

Our Little Friends enjoyed having the campus to themselves for the month. Mr. Toby brought his guitar for some outdoor music and on another hot day the children enjoyed time with the sprinkler.

Extended Care...sliding into a relaxing summer.

On Thursday, June 9, Grades 1–8 gathered on the lawn of the Heartwood Annex to celebrate the graduating 8th Graders. This assembly and ceremony includes performances by each class as a gift to the departing 8th Graders, followed by the 8th Grade Rose Ceremony, during which the 1st Graders give roses to their 8th grade buddies. This is the bookend to the 1st Grade Rose Ceremony at the beginning of the school year and a way for the 1st Graders to wish the 8th Graders well on their journey to high school. It is tradition that rising first graders make marionettes as their final kindergarten handwork project. This project is an expression of the will children have been developing throughout the kindergarten years. The marionettes then appear in a puppet story created by the children and performed for their class and other students in Early Childhood programs. Here you can see three very proud Buttercup Kindergarteners with their creations!

A parent of a Sunflower Kindergarten student filled the garden at the end of the chapel in the Buttercup/Sunflower outdoor classroom with plants. All of them came from her garden and her neighbor’s garden—plants that were getting big and needed or could be split. She and a Buttercup Kindergarten parent planted them all in June with some help from a few children.
