Michaelmas 2025

This annual Fall festival is celebrated with a pageant, songs, games of courage and strength, and old fashioned activities. We celebrate Michaelmas to find hope and honor the strength of human will, courage and initiative. In the traditions of Judaism, Islam and Christianity, the archangel Michael, or Mikail, is a symbolic leader of the force of good over evil and courage over cowardice. The celebration of Michaelmas, which is rooted in harvest festival traditions from the Middle Ages, teaches the importance of overcoming fear and darkness and strengthening resolve for winter.

Michaelmas Schedule

8:45–9:15am: Auditorium. Quiet Contemplation & Reflection Jeffrey Dorsey, Executive Director at Union Project, WSP Alumni Parent & Former Board President You are warmly invited to join together with other members of our community to contemplate the inner gestures of this time of year and of the festival of Michaelmas in light of anthroposophy and the path of inner development. In our time together, there will be an opportunity for quiet, individual reflection as well as dialogue. Note: For parents and guardians. Accessible to all.

12:15–1:30, 2:45–3:30 Cob Oven: 8th Grade Bake Sale Visit the 8th grade bake sale to enjoy a tasty treat. All proceeds benefit the 8th grade end-of-year class trip.

1:30–2:30 Grades Play Yard: Grades 1–5 Festival of Courage (includes glass blowing demonstration) Watch children in grades 1–5 participate in the Festival of Courage. Family members of grades 1–5 are welcome.

2:30–3:30 Heartwood Annex; Fairy: Garden Glass Blowing Demonstration & Apple Press Watch a glass blowing demonstration or take a turn pressing cider. All WSP community members are invited to attend.

3:00–3:30 Heartwood Annex: Fencing Demonstration. Take in the fencing demonstration led by Ms. Illar, our Athletic Director, and current and/or alumni students. All WSP community members are welcome and encouraged to watch.
